For this class you will need a floppy disk (better: a flash drive) and some good quality printer paper.
A demo version of MINITAB (good for 30 days) can be found at http://www.minitab.com. There is also a fairly cheap student version sufficient for this course. The textbook comes with a CD version as well.
Warning
This is a difficult course. If you want to pass, here is what you should expect to do:
• Come to class, (almost) always
• Pay attention while in class. If you don't understand something ASK
• After each class, spend at least one hour to go over what was discussed. If there is anything you don't understand, ASK about it in the next class, or come to the office hours. You can not expect to understand this material just by sitting in class and listening, you have to work through it again on your own later.
• Work on the homework assignments, mostly alone! Studying with you friends is ok. Working together on the assignments is ok as well but only working together, not copying! Copying from your friend might get you some points, but even this will not be enough to pass the course. Many of the problems on the exams and the final will be similar to those in the homework assignmments, so learning how to do those is crucial.
• There will be a lot of material to memorize. Without doing so you have no chance to pass this course.
Historically in this class most of the students who don't pass do so because they withdraw at some point with a W, not because they get an F. I suggest you think right now about how serious you are to pass this class and whether you are willing to do what it takes to pass! If you are taking other classes that are more important for you maybe you should concentrate on them, and take Statistics some other time.
